Autumn brings a rich variety of seasonal foods, from hearty veggie stews to roasted meats. The flavours of autumn are comforting and indulgent. Here is a list of the wines which I will enjoy drinking in this vibrant season.
Pinot Noir is an excellent choice for Autumn. It’s a versatile red wine with flavours of red berries, cherries and sometimes earthy or spicy notes. It pairs well with a wide range of Autumn dishes such as roasted poultry.
Merlot is a smooth and medium-bodied red wine with hints of plum and red berry flavours. It’s a great choice for roast lamb which has a touch a touch of sweetness.
As the weather cools down, a robust Cabernet Sauvignon can be a fantastic choice. It’s known for its dark fruit flavours, hints of cedar and sometimes a touch of spiciness. It pairs well with a warming vegetarian hotpot, making it perfect for autumn.
Riesling’s sweetness and acidity can balance spicier Autumn dishes, such as Asian cuisine or spicy pumpkin dishes.
Chardonnay can be rich and full-bodied or crisp and unoaked. It pairs well with creamy soups and sauces.
